Lisa Miller is a disaster insurance and recovery expert, earning a reputation as a tireless consumer advocate. Her firm of Lisa Miller & Associates, based in Tallahassee, Florida, provides government consulting and advocacy in Florida’s legislative and executive branches, business development, and public relations, with a percentage of her time devoted to a pro bono consumer advocacy practice. Lisa has held numerous senior executive positions in a 30-year career that has included public sector, corporation, association, and nonprofit work. She creates innovative solutions to navigate today’s marketplace, based on an extensive knowledge of insurance and financial services regulations, emergency management, disaster recovery, and real estate.

She has a wealth of knowledge connecting insurance and the real estate market and how the two ultimately serve a homebuyer. Her hurricane field and policy experience spans from Florida’s historic Hurricane Andrew in 1992 to present day recovery efforts from 2018’s Hurricane Michael and 2017’s Hurricane Irma. As Florida’s Deputy Insurance Commissioner and Deputy Chief Financial Officer in Florida’s Department of Financial Services, Lisa led the My Safe Florida Home program, a $250 million legislative initiative to encourage Floridians to strengthen their homes against hurricanes. She also helped launch the Hurricane Claims Mediation Program, an initiative that has helped consumers expedite the settlement of residential and commercial insurance claims.

Today, Lisa represents and advises property insurance companies representing 25% of Florida’s six million personal and commercial residential policies. She was an advisor on passage of Florida’s key laws to encourage the development of a private flood insurance market. Lisa is also the lead consultant for an international company providing negotiation services for local government entities seeking postdisaster federal public and individual financial assistance. A passionate advocate, Lisa has served on numerous panels and commissions including the Governor’s Property Insurance Reform Committee and as lead advisor to Florida’s Property and Casualty Insurance Fraud Task Force. She currently serves as the Governor’s appointment to the Apalachee Regional Planning Council and is a board member of the Corrections Foundation. She is also a member of the American Flood Coalition.

Lisa frequently presents at insurance industry conferences and corporate symposiums on the state of the Florida insurance market and its effect on insurance consumers as well as legislative, regulatory, and claims trends. She is frequently quoted by news media in Florida and nationwide on trends impacting the insurance buying public. She also hosts The Florida Insurance Roundup podcast. Lisa grew up in Plant City and attended Florida State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a master’s degree in Public Administration. She is also a Certified Insurance Instructor and Certified Public Manager.
